We are delighted to welcome Tees Valley Mayor, Ben Houchen, together with a panel of local experts for a special breakfast event at the National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool on 10 October 2019.

Ben will provide an overview of the strategic investment plans for Tees Valley Economy, including:

  • Success to date and updates on current investment activities
  • How Hartlepool sits within the wider Tees Valley Economic Plan
  • Current landscape of Business Support for SMEs
  • What's next?  Future Business Support initiatives

Joining Ben will be a panel of local experts:

Grant Peggie, The British Business Bank

After working at Innovate UK, Grant joined the British Business Bank in 2014 to lead the Bank’s work on Regional Funds, helping to reduce the funding gap between the North and London and the South East. He is responsible for the £400m Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund and works closely with the Tees Valley Combined Authority to ensure growing businesses are able to access the appropriate funding they need to grow.

John Carling, Solutions Northern Limited

Following a career in banking, John established Solutions Northern Limited in 2004.  He has overseen the creation of the niche concept of true “Business Support”, backed by a network of professionals across the North East, with the aim of assisting businesses to achieve their goals and objectives through finance or strategic change.

Alan Hodgson, Hodgson Fish

Fourth generation fishmonger, Alan lives and breathes fish.  He left school at 16 to follow in his father’s footsteps and has been in the business ever since.  Hodgson Fish recently secured £28k funding from Tees Valley Business Compass.  Alan will be joining the panel to share his success story.

Gillian Baker, Growth Consultant

Gillian supports small to medium enterprises looking to grow, helping them raise funds to do this.  It can be a challenge keeping up to date with the business support landscape and the eligibility criteria for the various schemes.
